Earthwell promotes a 'deep ecology' approach to life through a range of facilitated workshops.
“Deep Ecology” is a way of seeing ourselves in the world that develops a deeper harmony between ourselves and all of nature. Deep Ecology asks deeper questions, which take us below the surface symptoms of our ecological crisis to our values and world view and ultimately to the wisdom deep within each of us.
The philosophical basis of Deep Ecology is the belief in the intrinsic value of all life, rather than its value only for human use. ‘All organisms in the ecosphere, as parts of the interrelated whole, are equal in intrinsic worth’, suggests Arne Naess, the founder of Deep Ecology. The Deep Ecological view of our relationship to Earth is as that of a leaf to a tree. We have no separate individual existence. The fate of the Earth is our fate.
The apathy and sense of paralysis which many suffer, Deep Ecology argues, is a product of our diminished sense of self. When we recognise that our very being is made up of the stuff of all life, we become conscious of our larger, Ecological Self. Thus with the authority of more than 4 billion years of our planet’s evolution behind us, we are filled with new determination and perseverance. When Thinking Like a Mountain, we experience a deepened identification with Earth, and a renewal of our energy to work for the healing of our relationship with Her.
